Educational Supplies for Kids
Showing up for school is, of course, essential in the learning process. But that's not all it takes. Being prepared with both school supplies and out-of-school tools, with help your child reach maximum potential. Make sure you are up-to-date with your children's needs so they can make the most of their in-school education and continue learning even after the bell rings at end of day.
The Essentials
- The backpack
: This is one back-to-school essential that every kid needs. However, grabbing the cheapest one on the racks isn't going to cut it. When purchasing a backpack you need to consider many things, such as comfort and utility. Size is also important: make sure it's not too bulky or too small. There are many stress and back related injuries linked to poorly designed backpacks so keep that in mind as well. Ultimately, the best way to make a smart purchase is to put yourself in the kid's place -- think about his or her daily routine and take note of any particular needs. Also, have the kid try it on before you decide to swipe that credit card.
- Paper
and writing supplies
: Kids will never have enough paper and writing supplies. Especially in the elementary levels, children will be handwriting and drawing most of their projects, so it is important to be prepared. Paper comes in all different colors so try to purchase paper in colors like pastel blue, green, and yellow, which are easy on the eyes. Make sure writing supplies are comfortable and be prepared with both pens and pencils. Don't forget erasers!
- Folder
/Binder
: It's nice to instill some organizational skills in your child early on, so folders or a binder is essential in keeping all school supplies neat. There are simple but sturdy plastic folders (try to avoid paper folders: they're cheaper but won't last very long), as well as heavy-duty binders with compartments and attachments that can hold literally everything you need.
