Vegetable Peelers Buying Guide

There are two kinds of vegetable peelers.

Swivel Peeler

  • Also known as a straight peeler.
  • Potato eyer is located at the tip.

Y Peeler

  • Also known as a perpendicular peeler.
  • Potato eyer is located on one side (as above) or at the top of the handle.

  • The style of peeler you choose is mainly a matter of taste - which is easiest for you to hold? Both will effectively peel veggies and fruits.
  • A wider blade will peel large vegetables quickly, but a smaller one will give you better control over small vegetables.
  • Look for a sharp blade that will be easy to sharpen or replace - a sharp blade is key in preventing slips and accidental cuts.

Specialty Peelers

Zester

  • Part peeler, part grater, this is the tool for adding zest to your cooking.
  • If you don't know what this means, you probably don't need a zester.

Julienne Peeler

  • This speciality peeler cuts vegetables into julienne strips easily.

Serrated Peeler

  • Serrations help this peeler keep a grip on hard to peel fruits like tomatoes and peaches.
