Science Fiction and Fantasy Films

A great science fiction film  can take us into a fantastical world of danger and romance while giving us offbeat characters and an engaging story. They often come in sets of multiple movies such as trilogies  and sometimes they are based on a comic book  or created from a popular series of novels Fantasy films can encompass lots of varying stories and appeal to a wide audience. Some of these films can be epic and combine action with periods of storytelling, while others are jam-packed with plot twists from beginning to end. Some movies follow their original plots exactly while others veer away from the story told in written form. Therefore, a viewer who has seen the movie may not like the book and vice versa. New Releases

Terminator Salvation 

The fourth installment of the popular Terminator  movies continues to tell John Connor's story and his effort to win the race against the machines. Pick up this movie for your home and see what happens in the action-packed fourth installment.

Watchmen Ultimate Collector's Edition 

Based on the graphic novel, this movie adapts a plot involving retired superheroes who must resume fighting together to take down an enemy that is committing murder and therefore threatening their society.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 

Based on the massively popular set of books, this is the next gripping movie in the epic tale of Harry Potter's life. Dumbledore and Harry must again work together to keep Lord Voldemort at bay by destroying the source of his strength--but can they do it before someone catches them?

Star Trek 

This feature film is based on the  popular TV series. It depicts the earlier days of the crew on the USS Enterprise. Action packed and guaranteed to thrill, this movie appeals to sci-fi and non sci-fi fans alike.

Movies Based on Comics

The movies below were all made to mimic their comic counterparts and bring the printed pictures and words to life on screen. See a couple of popular adaptations below.

Fantastic Four 

A film about four astronauts that go up into space during an experiment and are exposed to harmful radiation as a result. Upon discovering their powers, the foursome teams up to take on the evils of the world and Dr. Doom.

Sin City 

Based around a fictitious city where morals are hard to find, this movie features a star-studded cast including Bruce Willis and Benicio Del Toro. It tells multiple tales of corruption in a doomed metropolis.

X-Men 

This is a trilogy of movies that has recently spun off into another film about  Wolverine's  origins. It tells of various men and women around the globe with specific mutations or powers that continually fight evil and try to maintain a peaceful existence with humans.

The Hulk 

Likely one of the best known comic books and cartoons around, this movie brings the green creature to life. Unable to suppress his rage and morphing into a beast when he is angry, this movie tells the story of the Hulk and his origins.

V for Vendetta 

The film takes place in a futuristic and domineering UK where the government has completely taken control over society.  One man attempts to overthrow and stop this chaos and finds a partner in a young girl named Evey. They work together to make changes.

Otherworldly Science Fiction

It's no secret that aliens play a sizable role in many movies of the science fiction genre. Even if you don't prefer these types of films, chances are you've seen at least one alien or outer space related sci fi flick, and if you haven't, check out some of the movies below! Some of the more serious films act as metaphors for well-known social situations that were occurring in the world at the time, while other movies are epic but have funny moments to balance them out.
