Fall Makeup Guide

Fall is right around the corner and before you know it the leaves will be turning vibrant shades of gold, red, and brown. Now is the perfect time to clean out your makeup bag  and toss out all those old, half-used products that haven't seen the light of day in years, and invest in some of the most versatile new colors and products that will carry your makeup routine gracefully into the winter months. This includes mascaras,  lipsticks,  bright and exotic eye shadows,  and sultry eyeliner  looks.

Then and Now

The fresh take on fall 2006 makeup revisits some of the trends we saw from 2005, and discards others. For example, remember the plain, barely-there boho beauty that mimicked fall fashion last fall? In '06 makeup should follow that trend, keeping things that natural and effortless. Nothing should be overdone, but everything should be neat and clean. Think natural with a touch of classical elegance. Smooth lines and a minimalist approach to your fall beauty will make your makeup go far and give you a look that can be extremely sexy. The key to looking natural, put together, and sharp all at once, is to reinvent your look by picking a single focus, such as the eyes or lips and give it emphasis with a kick. This makes boho go from blah and basic to chic and refined.

IN: Barely there to full yet natural lashes. Lancôme Fatale,  shown here, gives you seriously fat lashes that look natural. IN: Sheer or matte red and berry colored lips, like the color of wine. IN: Smoky eyes that are more subtle, not always in black, but blue, green, or gold are easy to do with kohl eyeliners.  IN: It's the return of blue eye shadow!  Try this bright pick by day or night. Perfect Brows

Great skin is always in and always has been. But what has been getting more attention lately are eyebrows! Having clean brows with a gentle, but nicely defined arch can really make your eyes pop. Plus, what's great about having perfect brows is that even without makeup on (or very little on), you'll still look beautiful. Unlike a few years ago when brows were tweezed  so thin and angled so harshly that it gave you a headache just looking at them, this fall give the trend is to give them a break. Let them grow in for a change. Once they do, you can get them professionally shaped so that they enhance your face. From then on, it's up to you to keep them well-manicured. So Fresh and So Clean

One of the newest trends is the luminating concealer brush.  It is essentially a concentrated liquid concealer  that comes in a tube. On one end is a concealer brush, and on the other is a mechanical twist mechanism. It's like having a liquid concealer and concealer brush combined into one easy to carry makeup item. To use, just twist and click and the concealer will rise up out of the tube into the brush. Instead of using a finger to apply the concealer you to paint it on with the soft brush. This is an extra gentle method of applying eye makeup so that you won't damage the soft tissue around your eyes, a major cause of puffiness and dark circles.

The great thing about the concealer is that it's infused with illuminating minerals to give your eyes a bright, wide awake look. Some even have a cooling factor to them so that tired, red eyes will feel more soothed. There are also concealer brushes for the rest of your face too.

Fall in Love with These Colors

Jewel tones, ubiquitous with autumn will start showing face in fashion and will even influence the season's hottest makeup trends. Here are some of the color combos that are expected to be so great that you'll have no choice but to fall in love.

Bourjois Noir & Blanc Eye Pencil  Line the outside in black and the inner rims with white. Use together or separate to create intense eyes. These colors will be classic now and later.	Philosophy 'the supernatural' all-in-one eye color palette  Soft browns and neutrals are easy to blend and easy to wear. Plus, chocolate is the hot shade for fall.	MAC Lure Collection Liner  Super hot teal blue shadow, or midnight, pewter, or even a shade of green is very in. With greens, go deep for dark skin, but light for pale and pink.	Chanel Soft Touch Gold  Gold made a comeback last fall and it has managed to stay in the runnings for one of the hot colors this year too. Play with lining and using full force.	Liquid Eye Liner  Take your pick for the brand, but keep it black. Use it on the upper eyelid only to create a mod-'60s look or just dot it along lashed for emphasis.
