I only rate it 2 stars because the problem is that the message I took away from it as an adult is not the only or even the usual way to read this book. The most common message is a fear-based warning not to seek anything outside the safest confines life has to offer because the world is dangerous and doesn't notice or care about us. It's a disempowering message. As a child my favorite parts of the book were the parts where Scuffy was having the adventure of sailing away. My least favorite parts were...
