This is a new planishing square hammer with a wood handle. Great for flattening, shaping, smoothing and finishing surfaces. Has a face that measures approximately 9/16" (14 mm) in diameter. The length of the head measures approximately 3 3/4" (94 mm). The hammer measures approximately 10 1/16" (256 mm) long.

Our new "German Style" chasing hammer is a high quality tool. The handle is hardwood featuring a wedge and oblong hole to keep the head from turning. The large face is flat and the pein side is slanted for better ergonomics when striking metal. This is a more popular style with European silversmiths, and preferred by many worldwide. The head is high grade stainless steel which has been case hardened for long life.

This three piece set includes a thick vulcanized firm rubber base which absorbs shock (and sound), plus two blocks designed to perfectly nest in the rubber base. Both blocks measure about 3" in diameter, and nearly 1" thick. The stainless steel block is ideal for flattening wire, and other wire working techniques. The nylon block is ideal for work with coated wires - pair it with the nylon hammer to work harden components without scratching the finish.

One hammer in this set has large and small flat faces; the second has one large flat and one small round face. Both are made from a heat-treated, high-alloy tool steel and finished with a black oxide treatment; faces are hand polished.

Use either face of this hammer to harden and flatten wire (please tap gently on Artistic Wire). The flat face is larger than our other chasing hammer - 1-1/4" inch in diameter. We love the bigger face of this hammer, since it facilitates the hammering of an entire wire design in one hit. This helps to flatten the design, but not mark it, avoiding a "hammered" finish.
