For decades Cabernet Franc was always mother's little helper when it came to making St. Emilion and Pomerol style reds. Here in California it usually plays the same role. Well young Sean Larkin knows a thing or two about making Cab Franc a star in its own right, where he casts Merlot and a little Cabernet Sauvignon as second bananas. Plush, harmonious, opulent and ready to rumble!

The Candelaria Cabernet Franc from Chile is medium-bodied, combining fruit notes like black plum and cherry with more exotic touches of roast coffee and even pipe tobacco. It's firm and smooth, with well-balanced tannins, and fast becoming one of the most popular discoveries.

If you had to categorize the Jonata El Alma Cab Franc into the category of Bordeaux-like or Loire-like, this would definitely fall into the first category. The nose is as beautiful as the finish with everything in between being equally as good. Powerful and brooding, with notes of black, inky fruit that intermingle with toasty vanilla. We tasted this with a few other 2005 cab francs and this one stole the show. Try a few bottles out while we still have some available.

This is a vegan wine. Dried cherry, black currant with notes of coriander/black pepper and sweet oak/vanilla. Also, some notes of fresh tobacco. Medium-full body with layers of ripe, black fruit, youthful tannins and nicely integrated oak with pleasant herbal tea notes. This is a big, forceful Cabernet Franc with an excellent structure for aging because of the firm tannins and lively acidity.

Larkin continues to demonstrate a brilliant touch with Cabernet Franc. The dark ruby/purple-tinged 2005 reveals this varietal?s intense fragrance of sweet cherries, raspberries, blueberries, bay leaf, and a hint of volcanic ash. Elegant in the mouth with impressive purity and fruit, medium body, and sweet, silky tannin, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.

Titus 2006 Cabernet Franc Napa Valley
Description Winemaker Notes - Our 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Franc is engaging and complex, with impressive structure and balance. It is a wine that reveals something more each time you return for a smell or taste. The well integrated tannins somehow exude powdered baking chocolate and cloak notes of blackberry and boysenberry...

2005 Adobe Road Cabernet Franc
As Wine Spectator noted, '(proprietor Kevin Buckler) has recently delivered some outstanding bottlings under his Adobe Road label.' This Cab Franc can hang with the best of them, serving up a silky dose of sweet red berry fruit with a line of oak vanilla woven through the flavor profile. A mere 320 cases were made in ’05 and they’re going fast… this is an insider’s find all the way.

Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc 2007 750ml
The 2004 vintage comes from three vineyards, all helping to build a wine with broad aromatics and layers of complex flavors. The base wine, again from the Wood Ranch in the heart of the Rutherford appellation, provides the deep, brooding and satisfying flavors. The distinct 'Franc' aromatics and perfume are derived from the Stanton Ranch in Oakville. The delicacy and nuance in the aroma and flavors, along with the lively streak of crisp acidity, emanate from teh Babcock Vineyard, located in Suisun...

Cabernet Franc is the forgotten grape of Bordeaux, but it is an important part of the traditional red blend, along with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon have gone on to create identities of their own in California and elsewhere, but Cab Franc remains a bit mysterious to many. However, Cab Franc often embodies some of the best qualities of both: the spice and focus of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot's less intense, smooth mouthfeel and supple tannins. In the Osprey Glen...

Fox Run Vineyards is located on the western banks of Seneca Lake and in 2008 was the first New York State winery ever, to be named in Wine & Spirits Magazine's Top 100 Wineries in the World. Seneca boasts a large number of the region’s wineries because of its large size (40 miles long) and depth (over 400 feet). And this massive body of water provides a unique tempering effect to the vineyards along its banks. This 2007 Cabernet Franc comes from estate vineyards averaging 14 years of age which may...
